Rudolph (Rudy) Joseph Betz was born on December 29, 1922 to George Betz Jr. and Josephine (nee Sterzer) Betz in the St. Philip's Municipality.
Rudy grew up on the family farm and went to Devonshire School in the Pelly district. He started work on the motor grader in Pelly around 1950. Rudy met the love of his Life Pauline Horkoff and were united in Marriage on September 22, 1951 at St. Philip's Roman Catholic Church. The couple moved to Kamsack after Rudy was transferred and then moved to Melville as Highway Area Supervisor in 1966. Rudy enjoyed his highway career, carefully checking his highways and working with great crews. In retirement years, Rudy and Pauline enjoyed fishing, camping, and golfing. They also enjoyed going on bus trips to Las Vegas and Four Bears, as well as traveling to BC to visit relatives. Some other favourite pastimes included reading, daily word puzzles, playing cards, and watching the Toronto Blue Jays. Rudy's garden and yard were examples of perfection - no weeds - and the driveway was always spotless in the winter. He and Pauline worked together to make delicious creations from their garden produce. Over the years, they attended many musical concerts, festivals, recitals, and events of children of their family and friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years and one of his duties was helping with the weekly bingos. He also volunteered countless hours for church activities. Those that knew him appreciated his patience and enjoyed his quiet sense of humour.
Rudy is survived by Pauline, his wife of 71 years, their nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, George Jr. and Josephine; his siblings and their spouses: George and Agnes Betz, Jack and Evelyn Betz, Lawrence Betz, Frank Betz, Joey and Louie Golay, and Elizabeth and Andrew Hubic.
