Solomon Dell Leary Obituary

Solomon Lydell “Dell” Leary, was born September 11, 1973, in White Plains, New York, to Samuel and Edith Leary.  They were excited for their “love child” born 10 years after their eldest son Samuel Maurice.  The family was eagerly awaiting his birth but none were as excited as his big brother, who treated him as if he had struck gold. Born in the "Valley" section of White Plains where some of the most influential African-Americans resided-Dell acquired the swagger of the most loyal, most compassionate, most original, and most spiritual.  He departed this life on November 5, 2022.

Dell matriculated through the White Plains Public Schools and Greenburgh Central School District, graduating from Woodlands High School in 1991.  Solomon's post-secondary life started at Sullivan Community College and later transferred to Delaware State University (DSU) in 1993.  DSU became his second family just as an HBCU is intended to do.  DSU is where he met his future wife, Makeda on the steps of Evers Hall. The two wed on September 30, 2006; later welcoming Trinity and Sy'Neyah.

Solomon's love for cars and driving led him to obtain his much sought-after Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and began driving fleet trucks and later to pursue his own fleet of trucks. If there was one thing he knew he could do was “drive his behind off”, as he would often say.

Dell always had a big heart with an even bigger smile coupled with the willingness to help if he could.  Often considered the "mayor" because he could and would strike up a conversation with anyone about anything. This man could navigate in any environment and would leave a lasting impression. You will remember Solomon “Dell” Leary. You knew where you stood with him. If he rocked with you, he rocked with you. If he didn't rock with you, he didn't rock with you.

Dell poured into his children the words and sentiment that "you can accomplish anything you want to accomplish". He often reminded us that "ain't nothing slow about me but my walk."

Dell leaves in this earthly world to cherish his loving memory, his wife, T. Makeda Leary; and children, Sabria Fountain, Dante Leary, Trinity Leary and Sy'Neyah Leary. He also leaves his great aunt, Luvenia Morrisey; aunt, Louise Blair; and a host of heartbroken cousins, extended family and friends.
