John Gregory Drain, a native and longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away on

Saturday, November 5th 2022 at the age of 82 at his home with his son by his side. He was

born on March 13th, 1940 in Mobile, Alabama. He is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Nora

Elizabeth “Bette” Drain (nee - McDonald). His children John Gregory Drain Jr, Christopher

McDonald Drain, Erin Denise (Ian) Walters, and Meagan Ann (Steven) Marler. HIs grandchildren

Cody Joseph Alexander (Jillian) Drain and Hannah Lindsey (Andrew) Dickson and his great

grandchildren Eli and Abigail Dickson. His siblings Patrick Kerry (JoAnn) Drain, Sharon Ann

Drain, Wendy Elizabeth (Ralph) Elmore, and Timothy Terrence Drain, along with several nieces,

nephews, great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Bro. Kent Allen Drain.

Growing up he attended St. Mary’s Elementary school, McGill Institute, and briefly attended

Spring Hill College. He was in the Air Force Reserve. He worked at Merchants National Bank

and retired from the United States Postal Service where he served as a clerk. He enjoyed

baseball, golf, softball, Alabama Football, spending time on Mobile Bay, and was the best damn

gumbo cook ever.

His viewing will be on November 8, 2022 at Ascension Funeral Home at 1016 Hillcrest Road,

Mobile, AL 36695, from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
