Sonia L. Lathan

Sonia (Sunny) Lee Lathan, 83 years young, of Londonderry, NH, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2022 surrounded by her family. She has reunited with the love of her life, Edward Whaley Lathan who preceded her in death on June 9, 2007. She was a loving wife and they shared 46 amazing years together.<div><p><br></p>Sunny, as she was known to all her friends and family, was born July 22, 1939 in Denver, CO, the daughter of the late Lt. Col. Earl and Bea Saunders. Sunny and Ed owned David Hellers Mens Clothing Store in Claremont, NH for ten years. Sunny brought a new dimension to the store and added a womens department which quickly became a very successful and popular addition. Sunny continued with a career and worked for H&amp;R Block for 24 years and additionally as a Jewelry Manger at Walmart for 17 years in Torrington, CT before retiring in 2013.</div><div><p><br></p></div><div>Sunny was extremely talented, very creative, and not one to sit still. She was witty, welcoming, always concerned for others over herself, and made you feel like you were the only person in the room when you were talking to her. Sunny did not know a stranger, loved to cook, loved to dance, and was always the life of the party. Sunny was a craft magician. She could take the most ordinary objects and turn them into works of art. Whether it was doing the window displays for the store, decoupage, dried and fresh floral arrangements, or her passion for gardening, there were no limits to her visions or creativity. Her family ALWAYS came first and her four grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. She was always willing and did share their adventures with anyone willing to listen.</div><div><p><br></p>Sunny is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Vanessa Lathan of Nichols Hills, OK, daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Dan Tewksbury of Chester, NH; four grandchildren, Courtney and her wife Jill Tewksbury, Ashley and her husband James Hylton, Karlee Lathan, and Camden Pierce; sister-in-law Felicia Lathan and nephew Robert of Barrington, IL; and last but certainly not least, her granddog Sadie who was always there to comfort her and brought her lots of smiles over the past year.<br>A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 12th at Whaley Family Cemetery in Whaleyville.</div><div><p><br></p></div><div>In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Liver Foundation Pediatrics, 75 Maiden Ln., New York, NY 10038.<br></div>
