Sylvester Grant

<p>Sylvester Raymond Grant, the son of Andrew and Emma (Lafountaine) Grant was born on March 3, 1934 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He died at the age of 88 years on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at his home in Rugby, North Dakota.</p><p><br></p><p>Sylvester was raised in Devils Lake and graduated from Belcourt High School. He met the love of his life in high school and he and Gladys Allard were united in marriage on September 1, 1954. They were blessed with two boys, Gary and Mark. Sylvester moved his family to Los Angeles, California to attend the R.C.A Radio Institute earning his certificate in 1963. The family moved back to North Dakota and he began his telephone career in Rugby in 1966 as a lineman. He held various positions before being named manager at Rugby in 1981. He and Gladys raised their family in Rugby and have since resided. After he retired, he seemed to stay busier than ever. He was also a carpenter and built a two stall garage at their lake house in Garrison, which housed his boat. Sylvester enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and picnics at the lake. He ran all the daily household errands and was Gladys’ chauffeur, driving her where she needed, which included her trips to the casino where he would stay in the car and read the newspaper. His family meant everything to him, was proud of them and enjoyed the time he got to spend with them. He had a blessed life and will be missed dearly.</p><p><br></p><p>Sylvester is survived by his wife, Gladys; son, Mark Grant of Rugby; grandchildren, Mike Grant, Kayla Grant and Gary Jr. Grant; great grandchildren, Alyza, Logan and Talon Grant, Elliona Hamley and Jassiah Decoteau and Bentley, Hazen, Hudson and Houston Grant; sisters, Gladys Greenwood, Rose Keplin, Sarah Domben and Ernestine Rindy; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary; an infant girl, Gladys; brothers, Archie and Linus Grant; a sister Eleanor Vivier and his parents.</p><p><br></p><p>Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, November 10 at 10:00 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in rural Belcourt with burial after in the church cemetery and lunch to follow at the church.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be on Thursday morning at 8:00 a.m. with rosary led by Ellie and Alvin McCloud beginning at 9:00 a.m. visitation will continue after rosary until the time of services beginning at 10:00 a.m.</p><p><br></p><p>Casket Bearers: Glen Allard, Dennis Keplin, Tommy Allard, Andy Domben, Mark Greenwood, Rick Bruggeman, Michael Grant and John Grant</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>

Sylvester Raymond Grant, the son of Andrew and Emma (Lafountaine) Grant was born on March 3, 1934 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He died at the age of 88 years on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at his home in Rugby, North Dakota.


Sylvester was raised in Devils Lake and graduated from Belcourt High School. He met the love of his life in high school and he and Gladys Allard were united in marriage on September 1, 1954.
