Donald M. Henningsen


Born in rural Maquoketa, Iowa on October 13, 1923 to parents Herman & Alma Henningsen. Educated in the Jackson County Rural School System, Maquoketa High School and Maquoketa Junior College. Served in the US Army Air Corps 1942-1947. Received his pilot wings and commission in June of 1944. Served as a pilot of C-47’s in the Pacific area during World War II. Discharged from the Air Force with the rank of Captain. Married Betty O’Meara on January 20, 1946.


Owned and operated with Betty a family farm east of Maquoketa. Employed at Jackson State Bank in Maquoketa for over 20 years. Retired as Executive Vice President of Hawkeye Bank. Served on the Maquoketa School Board, Jackson County Farm Bureau Board, Maquoketa Chambe of Commerce Borad, Iowa Bankers Agricultural committee, the Paul Sharer Foundation Board, Pearson Memorial Center Board, Maquoketa Country Club, Maquoketa Rotary Club member, Member of the American Legion Post 75 and a lifetime member of the VFW. Enjoyed Family, Music, Dancing, Cards and Golf


Daughters Nancee Peterman and Susan Henningsen. Grandchildren, Annette Abreu, Lance Peterman, Michelle McDonald, Clint Dostal. Six Great Grandchildren, Amanda, Mario, Alyssa, Ethan, Bryce and Dakota. Five Great-Great Grandchildren, Sutton, Shea, Walter, Lila and Nash.
