Peter O’Connell Kelly

May 29, 1937 – October 31, 2022

Peter O’Connell Kelly, 85, of Glenview, Illinois, and Pewaukee, Wisconsin, passed away on October 31st, 2022, surrounded by his family after a long and joyful life. Mr. Kelly was the son of John A. Kelly and Elizabeth Wade Kelly and grew up in Oak Park with his six siblings and attended Fenwick High School. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he obtained a law degree from the University of Notre Dame. He was a founding partner of Pederson & Houpt, where he specialized in Estates, Wills, and Trusts for more than three decades.

Above all, Peter was a family man. He was a devoted husband of 57 years to his loving wife, Susan Wade Niederman, with whom he enjoyed traveling and boating on Pewaukee Lake.

Peter took great pride in his children, Sarah Wade Kelly of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Peter O’Connell Kelly, Jr. of Glenview, Illinois; and his grandchildren Lucas Conner Scandella, Sofia Maxine Scandella, Caroline Isabel Scandella, Liam O’Connell Kelly, and McKenna Lynn Kelly. He was affectionately known as Abu and spent stretches of time in Buenos Aires and Pewaukee Lake with his beloved grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

In addition to being an avid reader, sailor, and bicyclist, he liked nothing better than cooking a delicious gourmet meal for his family and friends. Gregarious and known for his buena onda, Peter enjoyed connecting with and helping others.

Peter will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, devotion to his family and friends, but most of all, for his zest for life.
