Arlene K. Smith, 94, a lifelong resident of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on October 31 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her three devoted daughters. She was the loving wife of Willour A. Smith. They celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on June 4th.

Born in Nazareth on August 31, 1928, Arlene was the daughter of the late Allen O. and Amy V. (Woodring) Kahler. Arlene was an active member of St. John's UCC, Nazareth, where she previously taught Sunday School.

Arlene was a graduate of Nazareth High School, Class of 1946, and was involved in various school activities. She later helped organize and served on many class reunion committees.

She worked at the Nazareth Waste Company, Magnetic Winding in Easton, and Murphy’s Store prior to her 25+ year tenure at the former Lone Star Cement Company in Nazareth, where she was a receptionist and secretary.

Arlene enjoyed reading and bowling at the Nazareth YMCA and Blue Valley Lanes. She was a social member of the Nazareth Vigilance Hose Co. and a former member and secretary of the Vigilance Hose #1, Auxiliary, Nazareth. Arlene was also a member of the Calypso Chapter O.E.S. and a member and secretary of the Cedarettes of Easton Forest #35 Tall Cedars.

Arlene was a very caring person and greatly loved her three daughters and their families. She enjoyed playing card games, dominoes, and Rummikub with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in addition to baking for her friends and family, especially during the holidays.

Arlene will be deeply missed by her husband Willour and her three daughters: Lois Wolf and husband Jake, Claire Shook and husband Kevin, and Susan Snyder and husband Perry, all of Nazareth; five granddaughters: Jennifer (Wolf) Novak and husband Mike, Jessica (Wolf) Kirk and husband TJ, Krista (Snyder) Wayne and husband Andrew, Kimberly Snyder, and Lauren Shook; grandson Gregory Walls and wife Mary; great-grandchildren: Mason Wilson, Dylan and Madison Wayne, Zakary and Mattingly Novak, Gavin and Blake Walls and step great-grandson Patrick. Arlene was predeceased by her sister Dorothy M. Bensing and brothers Paul A. Kahler and Richard “Dickie” Kahler.

Friends and family may call on Friday, November 4 at St. John’s UCC, 183 S. Broad Street, Nazareth from 10-11am. Services will follow at 11am at the church. Interment will take place at Hope Cemetery, Hecktown, PA.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of The Bensing-Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg.
