Grant Wilbur King Obituary

KING, Grant Wilbur

April 21, 1931 – October 31, 2022

Peacefully at home, surrounded by loving families, Grant passed away in his 92nd year. Blessed to have had 2 loving wives, first wife being the late Marie (nee Cullis) and present wife Lola (nee Vine). We are grateful for Lola who lovingly cared for Dad so he could remain in their home. Cherished and inspirational father of Janet Smith (Smitty), Linda Gregory (Gordon), Sonny King (Ann) and Mary Lou Ivison (Len). Treasured grand and great grandfather of the King families and “Grantpa” of the MacFarlane and Kent families. Fondly remembered by siblings Audrey McPhail and Robert “Bob” King (late Glenna) and sister-in-law Zen Cullis. Predeceased by his parents Wilbur and Gertrude King as well as 10 siblings. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Grant was devoted to the betterment of the Thessalon community. He was a well-respected, hard-working businessman. He was active in numerous organizations including the Lions Club as a 60 plus year member, a volunteer fireman, town councillor, SAH board member and Point Riders Snowmobile Club as “King Pin”.

A stalwart lifetime member of the Church of the Redeemer in Thessalon, Grant was a pillar of the congregation.

He was so much to so many. He was always a gentleman and ready to lend a hand.

The family wishes to thank the paramedics and staff at NSHN-Thessalon for their professional care and concern.

Donations to NSHN-Thessalon Auxiliary, Thessalon Lions Club or charity of your choice are appreciated by the family.

Family and friends are invited to visit the Church of the Redeemer, 257 Main Street, Thessalon on Thursday, November 10, 2022 beginning at 11am until time of funeral service at 1pm. Venerable Roberta Wilson-Garrett and Reverend Canon Robert Elkin officiating. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery. Light luncheon at the church following burial. Members of the Lions Club are requested to gather at the Church of Redeemer at 1030 am.
