Bob Elkins Obituary

On October 30, 2022, beloved father , grandfather, brother and friend to many, Earl Robert Elkins, more commonly known as Bob, passed away at his family home in Wabasha, MN at the age of 83. Bob was born on November 23, 1938, in Rochester, MN to Earl Cook Elkins and Betty (Williams) Elkins. He served honorably in the Coast Guard for four years and obtained a Master’s degree in Social Work before embarking on his life’s work of service to others.


Bob served as a Parole and Probation Supervisor with Hennepin County Community Corrections and as a Crisis Social Worker at Regions Hospital in St Paul, serving in both capacities for over 40 years. Bob enjoyed the “dual citizenship” of life in the metro area during the work week but loved returning to the family home on Rustic Lane in Wabasha on the weekends and during the summer months.


Bob was previously married to Nancy Lind Elkins and together they brought into the world three children: Tom, Wendy and Heidi.


Bob is survived by his children Tom (Suzy) Elkins, Wendy Elkins and Heidi (Eric) Nelson; grandchildren Sami and Abby Elkins, Lindsey (Reyes) Elkins, Hunter and Holly Nelson; brother Thomas (Beth) Elkins, sister Betty Anne (Ron) Rosanove and sister Joan Elkins. He is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Betty.


Visitation will be Friday, November 4, 2022, at the Abbott Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. with a time of sharing at 6 p.m. A private family burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester will be held at a later date.
