Mary Eleanor Brown Allen, 98, of West Jefferson, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

She was born in Watauga County on August 19,1924 to the late Joseph Clark and Marjorie Williams Brown. Mary loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted member of West Jefferson United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. Mary retired from the United States Postal Service after working in the Post Offices of Sparta and Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen, Jr.; her son -in-law, James Mark Andrews; and her sisters, Evelyn Shoemaker Reel, Josephine Stringer and Martha Brown.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her daughter, Martha Andrews of Mount Airy; two granddaughters, Kristin Tilley (Andrew) of Mount Airy and Kimberly Johnson (Dan) of Pfafftown; five great-grandchildren, Happle Randolph, Drew Tilley, Dylan Tilley, Gray Randolph and Ellyson Randolph. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Mary's extended family at Generations of Ashe for their steadfast love, support and care.

A Celebration of life ceremony will held on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at West Jefferson United Methodist Church with Rev. Samuel Lewis officiating. A private burial will follow the ceremony.  

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the celebration of life service at West Jefferson United Methodist Church.
