Dorothy Juett Obituary

Dorothy Louise Huffman Hoffman Juett, 94, of Grand Island passed away October 27, 2022, at Riverside Lodge where she had resided for several years. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Apfel Funeral Home with Reverend Adam Snoberger officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarview Cemetery in Doniphan. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday.


Dorothy was born February 24, 1928, in Callaway, NE, the only child of Walter and Cecil Petersen (Hough) Huffman. She graduated from Stapleton High School in 1944. That summer she received her Teacher's Certificate from Kearney College. She taught at a country school in Lincoln County, NE for the 44-45 school term. In June of 1945, accompanied by her mother, Cecil, she left for San Diego CA to marry her high school sweetheart, Donald Eugene Hoffman, originally from Callaway, who was in the U. S. Navy. They were married June 12, 1945, in the Old San Diego Church. They returned to Nebraska after Don's discharge from service. Dorothy and Donald had three children. Donald passed August 3, 1985.


Dorothy and Lyle Eugene Juett were married September 14, 1991, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Island, NE where Dorothy was a long-time member.


Dorothy retired from Jack and Jill, a Nash Finch grocery store after 32 years as a checker and bookkeeper. She enjoyed reading, computer activities, sewing, embroidery and when she was younger, she enjoyed playing the piano. At Riverside she enjoyed playing Bingo.


She will be sadly missed by her family: daughter, Shirley K. Thompson of Lincoln, NE; son, Charles E. (Sue) Hoffman of Grand Island; stepdaughter, Kathy (Jerry) Harders of Boelus, NE; stepson, Steve (Charotte) Juett of Genoa, NE; five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Barbara Kearns of Mesa, AZ.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Eugene Hoffman, and her husband Lyle Eugene Juett, and her youngest son, Donald Dean Hoffman.
