Private Graveside Services for Janet Fleek, age 77 of Chambers, NE, will be at the Chambers Cemetery at a later date.  Janet passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin’s Mortuary of O’Neill, NE.

Janet Arlene Rickard was born on August 7, 1945 in Atkinson, NE to Bernard and Doris (Reiselt) Rickard. She attended Bartlett Public Schools through junior high before graduating from Chambers High School in 1963. During her time in high school, Janet played volleyball and was a cheerleader. She then went on to attend the Grand Island College of Business to be a secretary.  Janet worked for many years as a Social Worker for the DHHS office, retiring in the mid 2000’s.

Janet met Edwin Fleek through his sister, Mary, and the two were later married on June 1, 1965 in Lake Andes, SD. To this union, three children were born; Ryan, Kurt and Darci. They made their home in Chambers, NE. 

Janet was a Sunday School teacher at the Chambers Memorial Baptist Church, the church secretary, and also the secretary of the Chambers Alumni Association. She loved her flowers and her yard, to knit and crochet, to scrapbook and put together jigsaw puzzles, and was a great cook. Janet loved Husker Volleyball & Football and the NBA. She loved to read, cats, and holidays - especially Thanksgiving.

Janet is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ed Fleek; children, Ryan (Cari) Fleek of Elk Point, SD, Kurt (Jona) Fleek of Kearney, NE, and Darci (Russell) Macklem of Chambers, NE; 9 grandchildren, Jon Fleek, Joshua (Sarah) Fleek, Rachel Fleek, Cooper Fleek, Meshya Moschenross, Molly Fleek, Cole (Natasha) Macklem, Dylan (Haley Thompson) Macklem, Keithan Coufal; 2 great grandchildren, Paislee Fleek, and Cheyenne Enquist; siblings, Verlin (Pat) Rickard of Dorchester, NE, Gary Rickard of O’Neill, NE, Warren (Peg) Rickard of Atkinson, NE, Glenda (Dale) Mudloff of O’Neill, NE, Vicki (Bill) Tomjack of Chambers, NE, and Darla (Rick) Cox of Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law, Shelley Rickard of Lake Havasu City, AZ; and many other family members and friends.

Janet is preceded by her parents, Bernard and Doris Rickard; 3 unborn children; brothers, Alan Rickard, Martin Rickard, and Marvin Rickard.
