<p>Roberta “Bert” Carrels - Dedicated wife, Loving mother, Life of the party and Dear friend to many.<br></p><p><br></p><p>Roberta Marie Glomski was born January 19th,1938 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin to Joseph and Athlene (Coyle) Glomski. She grew up in Eau Claire Wisconsin with older brother Max, younger brother Frank and her twin brother Bob. She attended school there and graduated from Regis H.S. She often spoke of fond childhood memories of growing up on the lake with her brothers. She also loved spending her summers in Trempealeau, Wisconsin with her girl cousins, who she considered her sisters.</p><p><br></p><p>Bert met her husband of 63 years, Wayne Carrels, in Wabasha Minnesota the summer of 1958 while she was visiting friends. They were married the following year on July 11th at St Felix Church in Wabasha, where they put down their roots. They completed their family when the youngest of their six children (and only son) was born in the summer of 1968.</p><p><br></p><p>Throughout the years Bert often worked alongside her husband in the restaurant business and eventually they owned and operated two restaurants together where they did all the cooking and baking from scratch. After they left the restaurant business, Bert often worked outside the home in a variety of different positions. Her favorite jobs involved taking care of others. She was a natural caregiver with a heart of gold.</p><p><br></p><p>Bert was known for loving all people and for her generosity. Her door was always open and there was always room at her table. In addition to being compassionate, she was a whole lot of fun! She was always up for any adventure, she was a big fan of Halloween, she loved to shop and had a style of her own. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and spending time with her girlfriends. Bert had a zest for life and she lived hers to the fullest right to the end.</p><p><br></p><p>Bert passed away very peacefully in her sleep at home in Reads Landing, Minnesota on October 24th, 2022. She had been living with Alzheimer’s for approximately six years.</p><p><br></p><p>Bert was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Dolores Carrels, grandson Nathan Cichanowski, sister Jan Pryzjwoski, her brothers Max Glomski, Bob Glomski and Tom Coyle and two special people she helped raise and loved like daughters: Michelle Higginbotham and Lynda Pearson.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her husband, Wayne Carrels and her children: LeAnn Cook (Rick), Robin Gwaltney (Scott), Rayne Carrels, Doris Cichanowski-Luby (Ken) and Wayne Carrels Jr (Christine). Her grandchildren: William Huffman (Sarah), Michael Huffman (Marie), Brett Gwaltney, Jenna Miller (Matt), Keesha Wilgenbusch (Matt), Kyler Stiner (Nikia), Klowee Malakowsky, Kada Malakowsky and Andrew Cichanowski and six great grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, December 10th at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha beginning at 10:30 AM with lunch being served at the VFW to follow.</p><p><br></p><p>Services entrusted to Abbott Funeral Home &amp; Crematory, Wabasha, MN.
