<p>On Monday, October 24th, 2022, Major James G. Floyd, affectionately known to close family and friends as Gerald, heard the voice of the Master whisper softly, “Welcome home my precious child, welcome home”. With Loretta, his loving wife of 39 years by his side, he answered the Master’s call.&nbsp;&nbsp; </p><p>Major Floyd was born on September 15, 1955.&nbsp; He is proceeded in death by his parents, Deacon James P. and Lola Mae Floyd, and his younger brother Alfred Ragen Floyd.&nbsp; </p><p>Accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age, Major Floyd attended Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida with his family until he departed to continue his education.&nbsp;&nbsp; </p><p>Educated in the Duval County School system, Major Floyd attended Jean Ribault Senior Highschool where he was a member of the wrestling team and represented the class of 1973 as the first African American Valedictorian for the school.&nbsp; Continuing his education, he attended the University of the South in Sewannee, Tennessee graduating with a BS degree in Biology and then to the University of Florida School of Medicine where he received his MD in medicine. </p><p>After Medical School, Major Floyd enlisted in the United States Airforce serving from 1981 to 1992, and was accepted into the Orthopedic Surgery program, and completing his internship in General Surgery at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.&nbsp; </p><p>While stationed in Ohio, Major Floyd met the love of his life, Loretta Lee. They were joined in holy union in 1983. </p><p>Major Floyd achieved the rank of Major while in Ohio and was later transferred to Yokota, Japan where he held the position of Chief of Orthopedic Surgery, USAF Hospital from 1989 to 1992. He also served as Special Advisor to the Pacific Air Force’s Surgeon General’s Office.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </p><p>After completing his military service, Major and Mrs. Floyd relocated to Birmingham, Alabama where they were faithful members of the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, under the Pastorship of John Lovelace Cantelow III. In Birmingham, Major Floyd was on the staff of Cooper Green and Baptist Hospitals (Princeton and Montclair) and clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.&nbsp; He also served as Cooper Green’s Chief of General Surgery from 1998-1999.&nbsp; Major Floyd retired from orthopedic surgery in 2015 and he and his wife relocated to Orlando, Florida </p><p>Major Floyd leaves to cherish and celebrate his memories a devoted family, including his loving wife, Loretta; sisters Constance Melton (Otha Sr.) and Elizabeth Henderson; sisters-in-law, Easter Bunny Lee, Nancy Smith, and Carleese Floyd; aunt, Jo-Evelyn Jordan; godbrother, Marion Wilburn (Sharon); god-daughters, Lauren “Twinkie” and Lindsey “Darling” Gardner; godson, Raymond John Martin; special dear cousin, Carla Smith Peterson; and a host of nieces, nephews, sorrowing relatives and friends.&nbsp; </p><p>Sarah L.
