John D. "Dave" Waggoner

<p>John D. “Dave” Waggoner, 73, of Farmington, passed away at 9:32 PM on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at his residence. He was born on August 20, 1949 in Unionville, Missouri, a son of Leonard and Marilyn Waggoner. Dave attended Milan C-2 schools, graduating in May, 1967. He then moved to Peoria, Illinois and hired on at Caterpillar, Inc. in September 1967 as a 4-year Machinist apprentice. He worked there in various manufacturing assignments before retiring in February 2009 as a Senior Manufacturing Project Specialist.</p><p><br></p><p>Dave married Valorie Smith on July 26, 1969 in East Peoria, Illinois. She survives along with two children, Matthew (Holly) Waggoner of Trivoli, Illinois; Beth (Ashley Gordon) Tharp of Green Valley, Illinois, and 10 grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>Dave and Val own Waggoner Arabian Stable south of Farmington, a boarding and lesson barn. Val gave the lessons and provided training while Dave provided support. Through helping at horse shows, he became interested in running them and helping with club function and operation. He served as an officer in several horse clubs and managing their horse shows. He managed the Region XI Regional Show for nearly twenty years, and volunteered at the Arabian Horse Association’s US National Championship show for quite a few years. Dave served on the Board of Directors of the AHA for four terms, a total of eight years, helping manage the 40,000-member association.</p><p><br></p><p>Cremation rites will be accorded through Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to the charities of your choice.
