Visitation Monday 6 to 7 PM in the funeral home

Twila June (Swisher) Grey, 85, Jerico Springs Missouri, passed away on October 20, 2022, at Lake Stockton Healthcare in Stockton

.

Twila was born on May 29, 1937, in Jerico Springs, Missouri to A.C. and Wanda Gladys (Beckley) Swisher.

She attended school in Jerico Springs until the 8th grade and then went to Stockton High School where she graduated with the Class of 1955.

On September 2, 1955, in Harrisonville, Missouri a double ring wedding was performed. Twila married Jesse Gordon Grey. The other couple that was married with them was Carol Sortors and LeRoy Sullivan.

Born to this union were 3 girls: twins: Ginger Leigh and Gerri Leigh and Jenna Dawn.

Twila held a variety of jobs throughout her life. After graduating high school, she worked at Grand Avenue Bank in Kansas City, Missouri. After moving back to Cedar County, she worked at Montgomery Chevrolet in Stockton for many years and retired from S & H Farm Supply in Lockwood.

Twila and family lived in Kansas City and Liberty, Missouri until 1976 when they moved back to the farm in Jerico Springs. During their time in Liberty they made lifelong friends.

Twila enjoyed sewing, crafting, baking, quilting, and travelling. She also loved to go shopping with her daughters.

Her travel adventures took her to many places: Alaska where she went white water rafting. Albuquerque, New Mexico to see the hot air balloons, the Swisher family reunion to see the Tournament of Rose Parade in Pasadena, California on January 1, 2000. Twila and Gordon went on their first cruise to the Western Caribbean in 2007 with friends from Stockton. She also travelled to Boston, Martha Vineyard, Nantucket. A lot of Twila’s travel involved bus tours as she did not have to worry about driving or where to stay. All she had to do was admire the scenery.

Twila played cards all her life and shared this with her family.

A few fun facts about Twila: she could NOT smell skunk. While others around her might be gagging from the smell, her nose might burn a little. Twila loved Mexican food, especially tostados. She would eat them quite often for supper when Gordon was working the 2nd shift at 3M.

Twila was preceded in death by her parents, sister Frances Rae Swisher; daughter Ginger Leigh Grey, Aunt Jewel Hesterman (who was like a second mother), and sister-in-law Norma Jones.

Twila leaves to mourn her passing: husband of 67 years, Gordon Grey, daughters Gerri and Jenna Grey, fur babies Bambi and Buddy Boy, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
