Gladys A. Bauman Obituary

Sterling -- Gladys A. Bauman, age 89, of Sterling, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 20, 2022, at her granddaughter’s home in Seville, following a period of declining health.

Gladys was born on April 10, 1933, in Wayne County, Ohio, to the late Elmer and Bertha (Lance) Gasser and graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1951. She married Richard Bauman on June 9, 1951, in her parents’ backyard in Creston and they were happily married for 65 years until his death on November 1, 2016.

Gladys and Richard owned and operated Crestland Farms in Sterling for most of their adult lives. She was a hard worker her entire life, and even in retirement would often be found outside helping around the farm.

Gladys attended the Rittman Apostolic Christian Church for over 70 years. She was an avid Norwayne sports fan, rooting especially for the basketball, football, and track teams. In her younger years, she enjoyed slipping away from the farm and running egg routes where she enjoyed visiting with neighbors. She also enjoyed spending time with grandkids and great grandkids, and following Richard’s death looked forward to going out to eat with her friends, who were also widows. She was a proud member of the Milton Shamrocks 4H club, which her mom was a member for 10 years, she was for 10 years, daughter Karen was for 10 years, and now her grandchildren are members.

Surviving are her children, Karen (Stan) Beery of Rittman, Tom (Judy) Bauman of Carrollton, Dan (Janice) Bauman of Sterling, Ron (Barb) Bauman of Eaton, OH, and Brian (Mary) Bauman of Seville; daughter-in-law, Nancy Bauman of Sterling; grandchildren, Tony, Rebecca, Corban, Adrian, Abby, Kelly, Julie, Stacy, Jared, Tricia, Ryan, Rusty, Ric, Rachel, Judson, Logan, Anya, Alyssa, Andrew, Zach, Samantha, Josh, and Michelle; 47 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; brother-in-law, Harold (Sharon) Bauman of Wadsworth; sisters-in-law, Lois Beres, Darla and Janet Gasser, and Shirley and Betty Bauman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son Dale Bauman, infant sons Keith & Gary, granddaughter Hope Ann Beery, and 5 siblings.

Friends may call from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman, or from 9:30-10:15am on Monday morning at the church.
