Olander Quinn-Mallett Sloan was born in Louisville, Mississippi September 16th,1928. She was an only child to Frank Quinn and Hettie Beatrice Mallett (JT). She married John Franklin Sloan, Sr., on February 9, 1951, in Chicago, IL and they had four children. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and grandson, Jamar Davis.

She attended school in Louisville, Mississippi, and graduated from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. Olander also received a degree in business from Cortez Peters in Chicago, Illinois. She retired as a Processor from the law firm of Shook, Hardy & Bacon in 1989.


Olander was a daughter of the Midwest ELK Lodge #1441, Improved Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks where she held several titles and served on several boards.


During her lifetime, Olander was a member of the Kaw Valley District and a devoted Christian and servant to several churches. Her final church home was Second Baptist Church in Olathe, Kansas where she was known as Mother Sloan.


Mrs. Sloan leaves to cherish her memory three daughters and one son, Janice K. Davis (Rollie), Palm Bay, Florida, Melinda L. Sloan, Melbourne, Florida, Jae Sproles (Larry), Olathe, Kansas, and John Franklin Sloan, Jr (Barbara), Arlington, Texas. Four grandchildren, Nekia Shade (Reggie), Smyrna, Georgia, Latrice Gold, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dominique Sloan (Emi). Eight great-grandchildren, Tamiya, Jalen, Bryson, Barrionia, Keon, Ian, Nevaeh, Ari, and a host of other relatives and friends.
