On Friday, October 14, 2022 Rev. George E. Williams heard the words “welcome good and faithful servant”. George passed at the age of 82 with his family by his side. He was born to the late John Calvin Williams and Edna Knowlton Williams in McDowell County on March 3, 1940.
Rev. George Williams, Pastor George, was what he liked people to call him or just plain George. He started his journey when he got saved at age 8 and has served the Lord all these years. He was Ordained in the Baptist Church in 1969. He was 29 years old when he was ordained. He served 10 years in the Baptist Church and then felt the call to go into the United Methodist Church. George was 39 years old and served 43 years in the United Methodist Church. Total years in service to both Denominations were 53 years. He was a Working Man's Pastor. George Loved His Parishioners and they loved him. The Churches he served in the Baptist Denomination: Central Baptist, Kingwoods Baptist, Harmony Grove Baptist, Hefner Memorial Baptist Church. United Methodist Denomination He served: Co Pastor St. Marks, Pastor Denton's Chapel, Bollinger's Chapel, Mount Pleasant, Providence, Pleasant Hill, Bess Chapel, Bethlehem, Colliers, Zion Memorial, Mt. Pleasant, Mount Harmony, and Burke Chapel. George also served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps. George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was known as a caring and tender person, with the gift to sing. George and his wife, Gaile performed together for many years during their ministries.
Preceded in Death were the Grandparents of his mother and Father, Daughter, Wanda Gaile Williams.
Left to cherish George’s memory are his wife of 62 years, Gaile Campbell Williams; three children, Debra Bush (Brian) of Denver, Cathy Marshall (James) of Morganton, and Rev. John “Freddie” Williams (Loretta) of Nebo; two sisters, Brenda Williams Dillingham of Gardner and Rebecca “Lynne” Byrd (Mark) of Marion; grandchildren, Robert Ervin Patton, Cody Allen Patton, John-Michael Dustin Williams (Jodie), Tristan Dakota Grey Williams (Megan), Destiny Cheyenne Cierra Williams, and Makayla Hope Brittain Johnson; four great grandsons, Jonathan Patton, Zackery Patton, Kyrie Williams, and Mason Riffe; and number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 17, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home Crematory in Marion. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Harmony United Methodist Church in Connelly Springs, NC with George’s son, Rev. Freddie Williams and Rev. David Cristy officiating. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral at the church from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral service in Mount Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Frank Southers, Nowell Stilwell, Bob Watson, Tom Abernathy, Dusty Williams, and Dakota Williams. Honorary pallbearers are David Berry, Joel Lail, Britt Paige, Cody Patton, Glenn Zimmerman, Dick McCall, Leonard Watts, Bob Townsend, Zackary Kassuba, Bud Brittain, and Wade Hildebran.
