Obituary

Althea Helen (Miller) Rubey, age 79, of Plover, passed away October 10th , 2022 while in the care of Abbotsford Health Care Center, after a prolonged period of illness.

Althea was born to Howard Floyd Miller and Lucille Althea Fischer in Big Stone City, South Dakota on December 29th, 1942. She would grow up there and then in rural Nekoosa after the family relocated to Wisconsin.

On December 5th, 1967 she married Douglas Kenneth Rubey. They would have four children, Seth Parker, Wade Preston, Justin Price and Althea Tiffany-Paige Rubey.

Her first summer out of high school she would work at Nekoosa Papers before attending Gayle Institute in Minneapolis, MN and subsequently joining North Central Airlines where she would spend the remainder of her career at multiple stations. Her airline career afforded her the opportunity to travel frequently and some of her most treasured vacations were in Alaska and Hawaii. In 2006 she retired from Northwest Airlines (Delta) Green Bay station with 45 years of service.

After building the family home in 1974, Althea would always have a tremendous sense of place, the hobby farm she built would be the center of her and her family’s life. An endless menagerie of animals would always include horses, buying her first horse at eleven, from the slaughterhouse with saved pennies. As long as her health permitted, she would be active with local saddle clubs, and passed that love to her daughter and granddaughter. Her great pleasure in her later years was simply being outside

in the sunshine and among green, growing things.

Althea was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son Wade, and her brother Howard. She is survived by her former husband Doug, children Seth (Marie), Justin and Althea (Ryan) Rossier, her sister Sue (Joe) Gracyalny, and her grandchildren Taylor, Noah and Nathan Rubey. Further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. And of course, she is survived by the many animals that she loved and cared for.

A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2022 at Boston Funeral Home. Time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in St. Bronislava Catholic Cemetery.
