Phyllis McKinney Obituary

Phyllis E. Rasmussen, the 7th and final child born to Ferdinand and Irene (Fear) Rasmussen, came into this world on February 10, 1938 at home in Bronson, Iowa. Phyllis’ dad passed away in 1942 and her mom was dedicated to raising the children and providing for them.

Phyllis grew in the Bronson area and she graduated from Lawton High School in 1956. Phyllis was crowned Prom Queen that year. After graduation, Phyllis went to work at the local dentist office as an assistant; helping with x-rays and prepping patients. In 1958, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she worked at a potato processing plant. Phyllis returned to Sioux City in the 1960’s to help her mom. Phyllis enjoyed being around the public and she worked the next several years in the restaurant and bar business. Phyllis and her mom lived together, and they eventually moved to the Diagonal area. Phyllis worked at Caldwell’s in Redding until marrying Paul McKinney in 1981. Phyllis worked at Revie’s in Diagonal in the early 1990’s and she helped Paul on the farm. Phyllis’ mother continued to live with them until she passed away. Phyllis and Paul moved to Mount Ayr in 2005 and they later divorced in 2010. Phyllis made Heritage Park Apartments her home until becoming a resident of Clearview Home in June of 2020.

Phyllis loved music and she was a die-hard Elvis Presley Fan. She loved to listen to music and she loved to dance. She enjoyed going to the Eagle’s Nest at Sun Valley Lake and the Legion in Mount Ayr, to name a few. Linda King became her good friend and they enjoyed many good times together. Phyllis was a lady of strength who beat cancer in 1999 and overcame the effects of a stroke in 2000. She was able to dance again in November 2016! Phyllis was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2018 and successfully beat that too!

Phyllis passed away on October 10, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

Those left to share her memory include her children Robin Stuva, Misty Walkup and Troy McKinney; grandchildren include Tory Parker, Shaun Walkup, Josh McKinney, Brooklyn McKinney, Justin Stuva, Whitney Chesher; great grandchildren are Rogan and Ryer Parker, Wesley and Chloe McKinney, Trapper, Beau, and Banks Stuva.
