<p>Peacefully on Saturday October 8, 2022, six days shy of her 90th birthday, Esther Kristensen entered into rest in Dunnville, having been lovingly cared for at Grandview Lodge for four years. She will be welcomed back into the loving arms of her husband Gunner Kristensen, and special friend Jack Monaghan. Beloved mother of Leif (Sherry), Karen (Tim) and Dan. Cherished grandmother to Steven (Viveca), Kevin (Leena), Aaron (Rebecca), Christine (Scott)and Lisa (Luke), and great grandmother to ten. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Grandview Lodge for their care and compassion for Mom during her years in their care. Esther immigrated to Canada with Gunner in 1957, and has many members of extended family in Denmark.</p><p>In keeping with Esther's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private burial at Woodlawn Cemetery may take place at a later date. In memory of Esther, donations to the Alzheimers Society, Haldimand Senior Support or Grandview Lodge would be appreciated by her family.</p><p>We will all remember Esther for her kind, giving nature, a steadfast support for many who needed a helping hand. At the beginning of her stay at Grandview, she spent many hours wandering from room to room, looking for somewhere she could help out. She will also be remembered for her superb coffee, accompanied by a home baked treat of some sort, often bread or kringle. She spent considerable effort in mainting many Danish traditions for the family, especially Jul (Christmas), her favourite season. She was renowned for her shared Christmas cookie plates, and for the real candles on a live tree. We will do our best to honour her memory by keeping these traditions alive.</p>
