Byron Luers, Jr., 66, of Springfield, died at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022, at St. John’s Hospital.


Byron was born on June 11, 1956, in Springfield, the son of Byron and Jane (Lewis) Luers. He married Juvy Coles on December 8, 2016, in Springfield.


Byron graduated from Springfield High School in 1974 and attended Trinity University in Texas as well as Lincoln Land Community College. He worked for the Department of Natural Resources until his retirement. Byron was a member of The Central Illinois Numismatic Association and a Dodge Charger Group. He enjoyed coins and coin collecting, cars, and his beloved dog Shadow. Byron was known for his humor, friendliness and kind heart.


Byron was preceded in death by his parents.


He is survived by his loving wife, Juvy Luers of Springfield; brother, Jonathan Luers of Austin, TX; sister, Elizabeth “Libby” (Mark) Kuehl of Horseshoe Bay, TX; niece, Katelyn (Matthew) Rooney of Dallas, TX; and great-nephew, Teddy Rooney.


Private family ceremonies will be held with burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The family is being served by Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield.
