Janet Sue Bird Obituary

Janet Sue Bird

March 1, 1934

September 16, 2022

Janet Sue Bird passed away on September 16, 2022. We are comforted to know that she has gone from being in the presence of friends and family to being in the presence of her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is safe, and at peace.

Janet was born in early March of 1934, to Anton and Ida Pade, in Washburn, Wisconsin. She excelled at baton twirling and was a drum majorette at East Superior High School. She graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing, Duluth, MN in 1955.

She married John W. Bird on August 19, 1956. They moved to Reno, Nevada in 1964 and to Sparks in 1966, where they have remained since then. Janet worked as an RN at Washoe Medical Center, and then St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, where she retired in 1981.

Janet's first passion in life was her faith. She was a devoted mother to her four children, John, Jerry, Jinnine, and Janet. She taught them to respect others, and to understand that even though they were different, they were equally of value to God and us. She served as a leader for Blue Birds and Camp Fire Girls, and was the camp nurse during the annual week long camping adventure at Camp WeChMe. She cheered her children on in every activity they did.

She had many talents and taught many craft projects such as sewing, quilting, tatting, crocheting, etc. to anyone interested in learning. She had a number of quilts displayed at quilt shows, many of which were hand quilted, and one was displayed at the Reno Library. She loved photography and developed many of her own pictures. Janet also loved music. She played the flute, piano, and saxophone. For many years, she was on her Church music team. She enjoyed singing and had been a member of a number of choirs, where she sang everything from soprano to bass. She was also a very good cook.

She is survived by her husband John W. Bird, her son John, daughter-in-law Gina, and daughters Jinnine, and Janet. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Dr. Spencer and Judith Robnik of Duluth, MN, her brother Gary Pade of Dayton, Ohio, many nieces, nephews, and seven grandchildren: Michelle, Stephanie, John, Joshua, Sonja, Travis, and Taylor. She is preceded in death by her son Jerry.

Janet will be deeply missed by all who loved her. We will remember her bright smile, storytelling, quick wit, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 8th, at 11:00am, at Community Bible Church, 385 Gentry Way, Reno, NV 89502. A reception/lunch will follow the service. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be available via video live stream the day of the service at
