Barbara Ann Deal Kanipe, 78, of Newton, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Frye Regional Medical Center.

She was born December 8, 1943 in Catawba County to the late Norman and Bertie Howard Deal. Barbara was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Newton where she was a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She retired as a sewer in the furniture industry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George Deal, Norman Deal, Jr., and Bobby Deal; and brothers-in-law, Paul Jordan and Richard Brawley.

Michele Hedrick and husband Chris of Claremont

Sister: Shirley Brawley of Statesville

Sister-in-law: Linda Kanipe Jordan of Conover

Grandchildren: Shandel Moore, Whitney Cooke, Holly Cooke, and Taylor Arrington

Great-Grandchildren: Kara Moore, Marley Fiore, Cohen Cooke, Leighton Cooke, and Krew Lowery

Niece: Lisa Crawford

Nephew: Stephen Brawley

A service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church in Newton. Rev. Don Sigmon will officiate. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church. Those serving as pallbearers are Eric Moore, Joel Cooke, Eric Flores, Carroll Williams, Bruce Jonas, and Mike Matthews.
