Louise King

Louise Deaton King, 88, passed away Thursday, September 29 at her residence. <br><br>Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Star United Methodist Church, Star with reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Burial will be private. Family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday, October 4 at Star United Methodist Church.<br><br>She was born at home December 15, 1933 to the late Ida Catherine Thomas and David Calvin Deaton Sr. in Candor, NC. She graduated from Candor High School and worked for a short time as a telephone operator. She married Jack Milton Kern Sr. in 1955 and moved to Star where she lived in the same house for the next 67 years. After Jack’s death in 1973, she married William Ronald “Corn” King and they enjoyed life together for 30 years. Louise worked for Dr. Charles Scarborough at Star Medical Clinic for nearly 35 years and for St. Joseph of the Pines until her retirement. <br><br>She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and served on the board of Star United Methodist Church in many capacities over the years. She loved bingo on Tuesdays, was an avid puzzler, loved to read, and was a wonderful cook, particularly pound cake and pecan pie. She loved her town and her town has been good to her. It was always fun to hear about the adventures of her and her bestie, Savannah “Chunk” Allen because you never knew where you might see them. She loved getting photos and messages from her family, following their activities and watching them grow.<br><br>She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Kern Haynes (Rich) of Pinehurst; daughter-in-law, Ella Kern of Star; grandchildren Catherine Jacque Harman (Drew) of Aberdeen, Jack Milton Kern III (LeeAnn) of Cashiers, Peter Cameron Davis of Okracoke, and Paige Louise Kern of Star; step grandchildren Justin Hamlett (Breanna) of Trinity and Dalton Hamlett of Seagrove; great grandchildren Kaylee, Jaxon, Millie, JJ, Jaysek, and Jayin.<br><br>Louise is predeceased by her first husband Jack Milton Kern Sr (1973), her second husband William Ronald King (2006), son Jack Milton Kern Jr (2021), brothers D.C., Roy, and Paul Deaton, sister Ruth, and sister-in-law Pauline Deaton.<br><br>Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Star United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 375, Star, NC 27356. <br><br>Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines.<br><br><br>
