John Voulgaris, 92, of North Andover, passed away on Thursday, September 29, at High Pointe House in Haverhill, MA.

He was born in Sparta, Greece, April 15, 1930, son of the late Arthur and Angela (Ziavras) Voulgaris.

Educated in Greece, Mr. Voulgaris came to the United States in 1946 and served in the United States Army during the Korean War beginning in 1953. Mr. Voulgaris received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged in 1961. Upon the completion of his military service, he was employed at the former Charlestown Navy Yard until 1974.

Mr. Voulgaris then moved back to Greece, where he met and married his wife, Eleni, and together they moved to the United States, residing in North Andover, MA since 1979. For over thirty years he was a member of Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill, MA. Mr. Voulgaris was also previously a member of St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Andover, MA, where he was a member of the choir.

Mr. Voulgaris was a lifelong learner, accomplished gardener, and avid football fan. Deeply passionate about his Greek heritage, he was also proud of his service to the United States. Humility, hard work, and humor were all traits that marked his character. Above all, Mr. Voulgaris loved his family more than anything.

His survivors include his wife of 45 years, Eleni (Frintzila) Voulgaris of North Andover, two sons, Petros Voulgaris and his wife Lesley Dokos of Milton, MA, Panos Voulgaris and his wife Shannon of Exeter, NH, a daughter, Angela Voulgaris of North Andover, and five grandsons: Nicholas, James, George and Charley Voulgaris and Jonathan Sacchetti.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Wednesday morning, Oct. 5, from 10:00 to 11:00 in Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter St., Haverhill, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:15. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, North Andover. Arrangements are by the H.L.
