John F. O’Meara, 78, died peacefully on September 28, 2022.

Born in Union City, New Jersey he was raised in Valley Cottage, New York. He moved to Weehawken, New Jersey and spent time as a Merchant Marine. Mr. O’Meara was working as a Motion Picture Projectionist in New York City, when he met the love of his life Cecilia Chang. The two married in 1967 at the Palisades Avenue Presbyterian Church in Union City and started their family, settling back to John’s hometown to raise their two daughters. He was a member of the IATSE Local 306 in New York, volunteered his time as an EMT, and was a former Union City Special Police Officer. He went on to start his own successful maintenance and janitorial supply business in Union City, before his retirement.

Mr. O’Meara was an avid photographer and enjoyed reading. He loved trains and had an impressive Lionel Train Collection. John and Cecilia enjoyed traveling and gardening together. He had a huge heart for animals and would feed the neighborhood cats of Union City. John was an adventurous foodie before the word was coined and loved all types of food. He adored his wife and family and cherished the quality time they spent together.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry John O’Meara and Ruth May Masters.

Surviving are his beloved wife Cecilia O’Meara, his loving daughters Joy O’Meara and husband Humberto Wispe, and Dawn Cifuentes and husband Walter, and his cherished grandsons, Luke and Jack.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00PM on Monday, October 3, 2022, at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.

Family and friends are welcome to gather beginning at 10:00AM on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, for a prayer service to be held at 11:00AM at the funeral home.
