James Earl Wimbush, Sr.

<p>On Monday, September 26, 2022, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our dear Father, Husband, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Nephew, our beloved James Earl Wimbush Sr. James passed away at Bon Secours - Southside Medical Center, Petersburg, VA. He was born in Vance County, NC to the late James L. Wimbush and Mary B. Yancey-Wimbush on July 16, 1936.</p><p><br></p><p>Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Valerie M. Wimbush; sister, Rosa Wimbush; four brothers, George Wimbush, Joseph Wimbush, Milton Wimbush and Michael Wimbush.</p><p><br></p><p>James left North Carolina and moved to Richmond, VA where he met his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Mary L. Wimbush and from that marital union they were blessed with three children, Valerie Marie Wimbush (deceased) of Prince George, VA, Felicia Wimbush-Sumpter of Prince George, VA and James Wimbush, Jr, of SC.</p><p><br></p><p>Mr. Wimbush was a devoted husband and father with a zesty and comical personality. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He worked for the City of Richmond for many years and retired with 30 plus years of service. He was a member and Deacon at Loving Union Baptist Church, Disputanta, VA under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Sylvia Tucker until his declining health. James loved his family and fought very hard to stay here with us. He was cared for by his devoted daughter, Felicia, son-in-love, Aaron, and grandson, Joshua aka my boy, which was a name given him by his grandfather for the past 2 ½ years.</p><p><br></p><p>Mr. Wimbush is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Mary L. Wimbush; daughter, Felicia Wimbush-Sumpter and son-in-love, Aaron N. Sumpter, Sr., whom he loved dearly; son, James Wimbush, Jr. Mr. Wimbush was blessed to have a blended family of grandchildren and great grandchildren that he loved dearly. He leaves behind his natural grandchildren by age, Ashley P. Wimbush, Brianna M. Wimbush, Monica M. Gayle (Zachery), Joshua I. Sumpter, Thomas J. Sumpter, II, Kennidi McMullens; blended with love grandchildren by age, Percel N. Sumpter, Lewis Sumpter, Ashley Sumpter, Aaron J. Sumpter. He leaves behind his natural/blended with love great grandchildren, Jayden C. Perval, Jada M. Gayle, Valencia M. Wimbush-Parker, Eva A. Jones-Sumpter, Shanna V. Sumpter; Siblings, Charles Wimbush (Cheryl), Naomi Larke, Ruth Plummer, Margaret Clark (Henry), Phyliss Rainey (Larry) and Noreen Wimbush; brother-in-love, William A. Lanier, Sr. of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Clara Thweatt of Prince George, VA; along with an aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>As his health declined over the past month, he was put on Hospice with James River Hospice. We are thankful for the excellent care given to our beloved James Earl Wimbush, Sr.</p><p><br></p><p>A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Loving Union Baptist Church, 16750 Loving Union Rd., Disputanta, VA. Rev. Dr. Sylvia Tucker, Pastor will officate. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
