Obituary

Erskine Fleming Caldwell, 68 years old, passed on September 26, 2022, in Norfolk, VA. Erskine “Skip” was the son of the late Johnnie Rogers Caldwell & Willie Mae Robertson Caldwell.

He is survived by two Sisters, Elaine Fennell & Helena Winters, both of Norfolk, VA., and three Brothers, Johnnie R. Caldwell, Jr., (Jackie) Norfolk, VA; Michael J. Caldwell, (Avis) Virginia Beach, VA.; Sidney J. Caldwell, (Linda) Charlotte, NC, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Great Nieces & Great Nephews, Cousins, and friends.

He graduated from Maury High School in June of 1973.  Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army on his Birthday, August 7, 1973, and, during his tenure with the Army, he was awarded the “National Defense Service Medal” as a Marksman (Rifle).  Erskine “Skip” also joined the Army National Guard of the “Commonwealth of Virginia” and was honorably discharged on October 5, 1977.

Erskine “Skip” was an interesting guy.  He did his own thing for the most part once he left the United States Army.  Music was one of his passions and he played at different venues back in the seventies and early eighties with the “Park Place” neighborhood group of guys that he grew up with.  “Skip” as he was affectionately known was also somewhat of an entrepreneur.  He always did his own thing and had total belief in himself for “who he was” and “what he was and was not going to do.”  You had to “Love” him for who he was.

Erskine “Skip” worked for “RC Cola,” and “Pepsi Cola” delivering sodas in North Carolina and throughout the Tidewater area for years once he left the Military.  He also worked for a moving & transfer company and held other miscellaneous jobs prior to retiring.

Revelation 21:4

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
