Mr. Philip Russell Gilboy Obituary

Philip Russell Gilboy, 68, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, September 23, 2022.

Philip was born on April 8, 1954 to Harley and Phyllis Gilboy in Lake Forest, Illinois. He graduated from Lake Forest Academy in 1972 and went on to study English at Beloit College in Wisconsin. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1976, he earned his MBA. Philip then entered the municipal bond business and began his career. In 1999, Philip founded his own firm, P.R. Gilboy & Associates, and successfully ran it for 18 years with a flawless operational and regulatory record. He merged the corporation with HJ Sims in 2017 and joined their staff as executive vice president where he served until his death. Philip was highly respected and esteemed among his peers and associates and in the broader Charlotte finance community.

On October 6, 1984, Philip married the love of his life, Debra Allison, in Rochester, Michigan. Philip and Debra were happily married for 37 years and had two daughters, Allison and Christina, in 1988 and 1991, respectively. Philip excelled in many sports throughout his life, including track and field, basketball, ice hockey, football, and his favorite, golf. He won multiple golf tournaments over the years. He was a life-long fan of the Chicago Cubs, and he loved to travel and cook. Philip led the Union County soccer program for several years and coached teams for his daughters when they were growing up. His biggest passion, by far, was his family.

Philip always lifted others up with his positive can-do attitude. He found satisfaction in helping others succeed. He was hardworking, smart, and always humble. He was quick to share words of praise and admiration. He was a good man and the most loving father and husband.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Phyllis Gilboy, in 1981 and 2016 respectively. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Debra, his daughters Allison Pereklita and Christina Ellenberg, sons-in-law Ben Pereklita and Eric Ellenberg, and his grand-children Clarke Pereklita, Reese Pereklita, Eily Ellenberg and Annie Ellenberg.

Phil’s memorial will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 1 pm at Quail Hollow Club. 3700 Gleneagles Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210.
