Obituary

Torrence Raymond McMorris Sr. was born on December 2, 1942 to the union of Raymond and Mary Anne McMorris, in South Bend, Indiana.  He was the first born of “The Great Eight” as Terry and his siblings were referred to by Michelle’s husband Bernard.

Terry attended Kaley Elementary School, Central Junior and Senior High School, as well as the Seventh Day Adventists School.  He later entered the U.S. Army he was honorably discharged.  He was stationed in Colorado for two years and also in Germany.  While in Germany he heard of “Al Islam".  Though he struggled, he strived to be Muslim.  He worked hard to help the Muslim community any way that he could and encouraged others to accept the religion.

Some of his employers included: Kuert Concrete, Yellow Cab, and the City of South Bend.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn, siblings Laila (Hassan) Mateen, Debra (Bobby) Newbill, Craig (Cora) McMorris, Michelle (Earnest) Goodrich & Juli (James) Tate.  His children Torrence (LaTosha) McMorris, LehTika McMorris, Terrica (Thomas) McMillion and Ashley Roland were often with him.  He was very proud of his children, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  He has many nieces, nephews and cousins with whom he shared a loving relationship.  Extended family: William and Jeremiah Holloway and James Morris, Tony, Sean and Keith Moffitt, Quantella Moffitt-Doss, Martravion Johnson and Tariah Holloway.

If you knew Terry aka “T-Mac”, then you know that family and friends were very special to him.  He lived with his daughter Terrica, who lovingly cared for him in his final days.

Terry was fond of drawing, swimming, and fishing.  However, what he took the most pride in was singing, and in coaching those who aspired to excel in the craft.  While in the U.S. Army, he performed along with other soldiers in talent shows in Europe.

Upon returning home he was a member of the singing group, “The Icons”. They were a local group and were popular for many years.  Some called him “Little Smokey”, because of his voice being so nearly like that of Smokey Robinson and of course his signature processed hair and hazel eyes.  He won talent shows, alone as well as with various groups.

Torrence was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Kenneth and Steven McMorris, his children-Robin (Ramona) and Shelia (Barbara).

While we loved him and will feel his absence for a long time; we are yet grateful for the time that he was with us.

We pray that he will have Mercy, Forgiveness and a place in Jannah (In Sha Allah) Ameen

(ABU) As a Father You’ve shown US nothing but LOVE and Unprecedented Strength.  The LIGHT of Your LIFE did so Shine as the Sun in LIFE as well as in the face of death.  For as long as WE can remember you’ve always been OUR LIGHT even in OUR darkest places.  To US YOU WILL ALWAYS BE OUR DADDY TORRENCE MCMORRIS.  BUT, AS A BELIEVER WE ACKNOWLEDGE YOU TODAY AS…TARIQ, (OUR STAR OF PIERCING BRIGHTNESS) RAMZIDEEN, (OUR SYMBOL OF FAITH) AL MUMIN, (TRUSTWORTHY, FAITHFUL)
