<p>Ivy Nell Freeman, 89, of Oneonta passed away September 23, 2022. She was a woman of quiet strength and remarkable fortitude who was born in the heart of the depression to Annie Mae and Elmer Hawkins. She was the sister of Mildred Bellew (deceased), Ruth Bishop, Elvin (Buddy) Hawkins, and Icy Gordon. At age 15, she married the boy next door, Gordon Freeman, her husband of 56 years who passed away in 2005. Their family grew to include Laura Vest, Nathan Freeman (deceased), Karen Timmerman, and Debra Ivey, as well as 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Nell was a friend to many, especially her coworkers at Blue Bell, her neighbors, and her church. In retirement, Nell loved to travel. She visited 45 states as well as Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and Israel. Summers will never be the same without her huge garden, and homemade vegetable soup. Most of all, we will cherish her love and constant encouragement to strive to become our best selves and live in honor with kindness.</p><p><br></p><p>The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 25 at Lemley Funeral Home from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. She will lie in state at Oneonta First Baptist Church on Monday, September 26 from 10:00 AM until funeral time at 11:00 AM. Rev Larry Gibson and Ashleigh Timmerman-Dodd presiding. Special thanks to TLC Nursing Center and Comfort Care Hospice for their kindness and loving care. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to the Ronald McDonald House or the charity of your choice.</p><p><br></p>
