Robert E. Burgess

Robert E. Burgess, 67, of Rock Island, passed away Thursday September 22, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City.

A Memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, Friday September 30, 2022 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 12:00pm to service time at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be left to Fort Armstrong or American Diabetes Association.

Robert was born on October 25, 1954 in Moline, the son of Edwin M. and Ruth L. (Nelson) Burgess. He was a graduate of Rock island High School and later Augustana College, Rock Island, with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After college, Robert had been employed at Arthur Andersen in Chicago as an accountant. He returned to Rock island and was employed at Bituminus Insurance Company. Robert later worked as a courier with local businesses, delivered the Quad City Times paper for several years and owned Bob’s Comics store back in the 1980’s.

Mr. Burgess loved comics, old television shows and movies and was a avid genealogist. He was a loving uncle to his nieces and great nieces and nephews. Robert had truly enjoyed living in Chicago and was always proud to have been raised in Rock Island.

Survivors include his nieces, Lisa (Joseph) Miller, Lora (Grady) DeVan Powers, Leslie Sue Conner, Rebecca Burgess and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Ruth; sisters, Linda Burgess Conner and Christine Burgess.
