Chelsea Benson Obituary

Mrs. Chelsea Robinette Benson, age 33 of Marietta, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 22, 2022 after a valiant and courageous fight against aplastic anemia. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 3rd, 2022 at 2pm at St. Andrew United Methodist Church located at 3455 Canton Rd, Marietta, GA 30066.

Mrs. Benson is survived by her loving husband Todd Benson, three children Hanley Grace Benson, Brady Samuel Benson and Eliza Kate Benson, parents Tal and Julie Wright, sister Stephanie Wright (Ethan Morris), brother Adam Wright (Holley) and nephew Samuel, and aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family wishes all of Chelsea’s many friends throughout the years would join them to visit, share stories, and say final good-byes on Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 2-5pm at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna located at 2950 King St SE, Smyrna, GA 30080.

Chelsea’s most amazing attribute was her ability to form connections with everyone she met. From her strong sibling-like bonds with her cousins; friendships formed throughout her school years at St. Andrew UMC Preschool, Mountain View Elementary, Simpson Middle School, Lassiter High School, and Georgia College & State University; neighborhood community friends; and new friends in the Burn Fitness community where Chelsea recently found a passion for working out until her illness prevented her from participating. Chelsea connected with so many friends throughout her whole life.

Chelsea graduated with a degree in Special Education and enjoyed teaching at Bryant Elementary and Sedalia Park Elementary, gaining more friendships with her fellow teachers.

Growing up attending St. Andrew UMC, she was involved in the youth group, spent a week every summer at Camp Glisson in Dahlonega, and participated in mission trips through Appalachia Service Project.

Chelsea enjoyed traveling, particularly to any location with a body of water. One of her more recent travels was visiting her sister in Jackson, WY where she fell in love with Grand Teton National Park. Before her illness struck, she had plans to return to hike the region and float on the beautiful alpine lakes of the park again this summer. Other destinations included Belize and Cozumel, but her favorite trip was to South Africa with the love of her life, Todd who she met in 2012. Shortly after that trip Chelsea and Todd got engaged, and they married in 2014. Their goldendoodle, Lucy, was Chelsea’s “engagement puppy” to Todd and ring-bearer at the wedding. For their honeymoon, they learned how to scuba-dive, traveling to Jamaica.

Her children were the light of her life - she loved being a mom and helping other mothers by sharing her knowledge of “Momming.” Chelsea spent countless hours talking and typing out words of advice and encouragement to her fellow moms which brought her great joy and fulfillment. She truly loved it. Chelsea cherished her neighbors and any time they could get together. Chelsea was quite creative for holidays, birthday parties, and any kind of celebration – Pinterest and Etsy were consulted frequently. For some time before Halloween, Chelsea would work on pulling together all the items for the entire family to dress thematically – Wizard of Oz, Aladdin, Flintstones, and Old MacDonald Had a Farm.

Chelsea was very connected through social media with so many friends and acquaintances. It was a highlight of the day to see the updates she posted on Instagram about “life with the Bensons.” How those will be sorely missed!
