Larry was born on December 15, 1947 in Logan, WV to John and Sarah (Sally) Lovins. The family
moved to Catlettsburg, KY when Larry was in 3rd grade. The family then moved to Ashland, KY
where he graduated from Paul Blazer High School in 1965. Larry attended Ashland Community
and Technical College where he received an associate degree in Industrial Electronics. He
became a local business owner of Appalachian Home Center, which he co-owned with his
brothers for several years. He was a master cabinet maker, building beautiful custom cabinetry
for many residents in the tri-state area as well as several businesses, including King’s Daughter
Medical Center in Ashland, KY. His craftsmanship and reputation led him to build custom
cabinetry for clients from coast to coast, even as far as Hawaii.
Larry married the love of his life, Teresa (Twinam), on January 30, 1970 and were happily
married for over 52 years. They lived in Ashland, KY their entire marriage where they still have a
residence. Larry loved his family beyond measure and traveled to visit his family in Florida as
much as possible, especially his two granddaughters. He attended every dance competition,
theater performance, gymnastics meet, and church performance he possibly could. He officially
retired in 2020 and became a Florida “snowbird” to spend more time with his children and
grandchildren in the greater Orlando area.
Above all else, Larry was a faithful Christian man and loved the Lord with all his heart and soul.
Larry was a charter member of the Prince of Prince Freewill Baptist church in Huntington, WV.
He and his family moved to Sunshine Freewill Baptist Church (Huntington, WV.) in the mid
1980’s where Larry served in multiple areas. Larry loved to sing and was blessed with a
beautiful voice. He used his gift of song as a member of the church choir for his entire adult life,
also singing with small groups and as a soloist at church and throughout the community. He
also served as a deacon for Sunshine for over 30 years. In addition, he served as the director of
Sunday School where he helped ensure the youth heard the message of Jesus Christ and laid
the foundation to grow in their faith. Upon receiving the pancreatic cancer diagnosis Larry
shared with friends, family, medical team and anyone he encountered that God has taken care
of him and his family throughout his life and he was confident that God would take care of him
through this illness.
