Charles “Pete” Leon Peak 78, passed away at his home on September 8, 2022. He was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on September 5, 1944, the only son of Sally Martin and Leon Peak. He is preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Emma Staten; daughters Annette and Lori “Lolo”; daughter, Michelle McCoy from a previous marriage; brother, Cary Anderson Jr; sisters- in law; Eddie B. Woodard and Reaver Thompson; nephew, Mark Quinn Sr.; grandsons, Damon Thomas and Johnny Taylor V, and  great-grandson Sir Alvis O’Neal IV.

In May of 1963, he joined the US Army giving him the opportunity to live overseas and spend time in Korea and Germany. He also served and fought in Vietnam War. Pete was honorably, discharged in April of 1976 and decided to settle in Topeka, Kansas. He worked at the VA Hospital as a janitor. During his employment at the VA, he met and fell in love with Annie L. Lyons, marrying her on July 9, 1988. He also bartended at Dempsey, and later retired from Presbyterian Manor as Kitchen Supervisor in the early 2000s

Pete accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. Melvin C. Wakes and served on the Deacon Board until he became ill and could no longer attend services. He also was a member of the Masonic Masons.

Pete loved life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time with his family during Sunday dinners, holidays/gatherings, and surprise visits from family and old friends he hasn’t seen in a while. One of his favorite games was playing dominoes with loved ones. He loved watching sports, basketball, and during football season (Pittsburgh Steelers!!), and do not forget his all-time favorite old black and white Western shows. Pete also loved spending time outside of his home and before becoming disabled you could find him in a pool hall on the nearest table shooting pool with friends. After becoming ill his son Chris and grand/great-grandsons would surprise him from time to time with a trip to the pool hall for a good ol’ game. When he was able to make it he loved going to watch and support his great-grandchildren in whatever sport they played.

Pete’s life and memories are survived, cherished, and loved by his wife Annie L. Peak; brothers, Roger L. Davis, Lathrup, Michigan, Robert Anderson ,Dothan, Alabama and MarvinAnderson, Germany; children, Georgia Lyons, Kansas City, Kansas, Willie Lyons Jr., Janice Moore-Lyons, Jannette Lyons, and Iva,( Darwin) Lyons-Cradle all of Topeka, Kansas; son Christopher Love Jr. Kansas City, Missouri; children from a previous marriage Linda McCoy Washington, DC, Bill McCoy Topeka, Kansas, Raymond McCoy Kansas City, Missouri, Kinny McCoy Wichita, Kansas, and a host of other relatives and friends who loved him and will miss him.
