Obituary

Born October 18 th 2008- Crossed the Rainbow Bridge September 6th 2022

Max adopted his forever family, Cal and Joan Coolidge of Lake Frederick Virginia in May 2011. He was residing at All Breeds Kennels in Front Royal due to overcrowding at the Humane Society of Warren County. Max had become a favorite of the owners, Mr. Doug, and Ms. Deborah but he needed to find his forever family.

The first sight of Max powerfully tugging at his leash when he emerged from “in back” where the individual kennels were located might have been all most senior citizens would have needed to know. This guy was too much for them. His toenails were unsuccessfully gripping the hard linoleum while nearly dragging young Christina through the closing door at the end of a taught 5-foot leash.

Despite his powerful athletic Boxer build, which seemed to have the height of a Dane mixed in, what was approaching us was the biggest dog smile ever put on a formally attired Boxer. His coat was jet black, except for the chest of white, and all four paws that resembled white bucks. If you could get him to sit still long enough to clasp a formal bow tie on him, he was ready for a night at an inaugural ball. One good looking young man!

Max’s background was sketchy. He’d been adopted out twice before. He proved to be too much for previous owners. However, that sweet face and regal appearance was more than we could refuse. So, home he went with us, at least for a trial.

A trial it became; we’d brought home a world class counter surfer who could even peal the bananas he pulled off the counters along with most everything else edible. The house was a shambles upon our return the first time we left him alone. Just before giving up on him we discovered the boy had manners if we imparted a bit of discipline and that he was smart as a whip.

Slowly he changed our lives, and we changed his.

Max became the best-behaved sweet boy anyone could imagine. He became an honorary member at the Golf Clubs Cal belonged to. The Foundry in Richmond and Blue Ridge Shadows in Front Royal welcomed him. He was allowed to run the golf course along side Cal’s cart. He mostly knew his golf etiquette. Stay out of the bunkers and don’t move while someone is putting. What endeared him most to the members and staff was his routine of drinking a dark beer after the round with the guys.

Don’t try to drive by Dunkin’ Donuts or the bank without stopping for Max to charm the ladies out of a treat.

“Oh, Max is here” or “you must be Max’s Mom” was heard when we met new neighbors, him they have heard about, we were just his

people.

Max leaves his parents Cal and Joan Coolidge of Lake Frederick as well as his human sisters Melinda of Silver Spring Maryland and Sarah of Turku Finland and the girl’s dogs Luna and Zep. Max joins Ella, Bo, Abbie, Brit, Max#1, Poochie and Skipper over the Rainbow Bridge.

Waiting for Max is his long-time friend and sitter Joy Anderson who passed earlier in 2022. Max and she are exchanging butterfly kisses we are sure.

Max never had a mean bone in his body, the sweetest boy ever.
