James Edward Tiner, 53, of La Porte, passed away unexpectedly at his home at 6:57 a.m., on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

He was born August 15, 1969, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Dempsey (Pat) Tiner and Frances (Smart) Tiner.

Jim grew up in New Buffalo, Michigan. He enjoyed gaming, reading books, knife collecting and going on long walks. He was a Marine veteran who served in Iceland, Philippines, and Okinawa from 1987 to 1991. Jim enjoyed his job in shipping and receiving at Winn Machine in La Porte. He was a San Francisco 49ers fan. He had a big heart and truly enjoyed helping others in need. Jim will be deeply missed.

Surviving are his two sisters, Melissa Tiner and Kim (Tiner) Sleezer, nephew, Kai Sleezer, aunt, Donna Tiner, and cousin, Kim Tiner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and uncle, Kenneth Tiner, and cousin, Kendra Tiner.

Cremation will take place with no services at this time. Arrangements are with Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W Johnson Road, La Porte, 219-362-3100.
