<p>Terry H. Covington, 68, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.</p><p><br></p><p>Terry was born August 10, 1954, in Springfield, the son of Girard Covington and Janet Haynes. He married Carla R. Howell on June 5, 1987, in Springfield.</p><p><br></p><p>Terry graduated from Lanphier High School and attended Lincoln Land Community College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Terry was employed with the State of Illinois and later with ADM. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and three beloved boxers. Terry collected die-cast cars, and loved muscle cars. He enjoyed working in his yard, flower gardening, and watching Sci-Fi and Court TV.</p><p><br></p><p>He was preceded in death by his father, Girard “Morey” Covington; son, Terry Covington; and brothers, Jerry and Keith Covington.</p><p><br></p><p>Terry is survived by his wife, Carla Covington of Springfield; his children, Taija (Jordan) Charnley of Springfield, Trae (Marguerite) Covington of Springfield, and Terry (Sarah) Grigsby of MO; grandchildren, Nova, Quinn, Gwendolyn, and Eleanor; mother, Janet Haynes of Springfield; brother, Michael Covington of Springfield; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.</p><p><br></p><p>Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Avenue West, Springfield, IL.</p><p><br></p><p>Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW National Home, 3573 South Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827.</p><p><br></p>
