Ivan Hicks

Mr. Ivan Hicks, age 85, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Saturday morning, January 9, 2016, at the Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wurtland, Kentucky. He was born June 1, 1930, in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of the late Everett Anderson and Gertrude P'Simer Hicks. Ivan was of the Protestant faith and a member of the House of Prayer in Morehead, Kentucky. He retired from Hitchens Brickyard after 24 years of service. He enjoyed coon hunting, hauling junk, and dirt track racing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Tennyson Hicks, Chalmer Gene Hicks, and Cleo Anderson Hicks, and three sisters, Thelma King Mitchell, Wanda Kegley, and Carla Sue Bond. Ivan is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jewell Griffey Hicks; one son, Jeffrey Allen Hicks and his companion Linda Miller both of Olive Hill, Kentucky; three daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Dwight Kouns of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Carolyn and Richard Henderson of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and Lucia and Murv McClurg of Morehead, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren, Jimmy, Shelly, Kelly, Kevin, Cyndi, Nathen, Nicholas, Paige, Shelton, and Skylar; 10 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Debbie Hicks, and Dale and Connie Hicks all of Olive Hill, Kentucky; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Bonnie Bond, Sharon Cutwright both of Mansfield, Ohio, and Rita and Joey Bond of Olive Hill, Kentucky. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Terry Dean and Brother Winston McClurg officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky. Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2016, and until the service hour on Tuesday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164 Shelton Kouns, Jimmy Henderson, Nathan Hicks, Nicholas Hicks, Cyndi Manning, Paige Roe, B.J. Bond, and J.D. Hicks will serve as pallbearers. Kevin, Shelly, Kelly, Skylar, and five great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2016, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164. Funeral: 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky. Interment: Garvin Ridge Cemetery Olive Hill, Kentucky
