Kenny, the oldest child of Herman and Dorothy (Hyman) Schultz, was born on October 30, 1924, at his parents’ home two miles north of Hawkeye. Kenny spent most of his life living in and around Hawkeye, graduating from Hawkeye High School in 1942, being a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he received the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and matrimony, operating a family farm for decades, and ultimately retiring to a house on Burger Street.

Kenny had many passions in life, including playing and watching baseball, dancing, and organizing a card game. In his youth, Kenny played on the Hawkeye town baseball team, traveling to various towns in the area to play against their teams. Kenny was also fond of the dance floor, which is where he met his dance and life partner: Marjorie Belschner. Kenny married Marjorie on June 26, 1949, and together they raised four children: Lois, Linda, Calvin, and Charles.

Kenny lived on the family farm south of Hawkeye until he retired in 1988. During his retirement Kenny was a prolific volunteer and served on numerous boards, including Farm Service, Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawkeye Cemetery, Fayette County Food Shelf, and Hawkeye Telephone Company. Kenny also worked part-time for Triple L garage, driving cars to and from auction sites for many years.

When he wasn’t behind the wheel, in a board seat, or otherwise volunteering, Kenny enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities, woodworking, traveling, and socializing with friends. Later in life, Kenny passed his days making his daily rounds in Hawkeye, with mornings spent solving world problems over cups of coffee at Diane’s and lining his card playing partners’ pockets—one dollar bill corner at a time. The afternoons included Jimmy D’s to watch Jeopardy and deadpan his favorite waitresses.

Kenny will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Kenny was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; brother, Donald Schultz; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Louis and Mary Fritz; parents, Herman and Dorothy; and father and mother-in-law, Gustave and Lola Dee Belschner. Kenny is survived by his children, Lois and (Kenneth) Kimbrell of Mesa, AZ, Linda and (Leonard) Voshell of Wadena, Calvin Schultz of Summer, and Chuck and (Barb) Schultz of Hawkeye; grandchildren, Tammy (John) Eydeler, Nathan (Tiffany) Voshell, Sharnel Voshell, Jessica (Patrick McElyea) Schultz, and Justin (Morgan) Schultz; and great grandchildren, Alyssa, Jackson, Ethan, Delanie, Kaden, Madison, Natalie, Haley, Kendra, and Charlotte; his siblings, Evelyn Schultz of Hawkeye, Elmer (Janet) Schultz of Sac City; and his sister-in-law, Olette Schultz of Fayette.
