Sylvester A. “Sam” Meyer Jr., 79, of Fort Myers, FL passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, FL. Sam was born on Thursday, November 12, 1942, in Louisville, KY to Sylvester Anton (Tony) Meyer and Amelia Mae (Harmon) Meyer. On November 29, 1963, in Louisville, KY, Sam married Elizabeth Kaye (Metts) Meyer. This year they would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Sam was a duPont Manual High School graduate in Louisville, KY, and retired from Louisville Gas & Electric after 27 years of service. After retiring, Sam was an entrepreneur, moved to Florida and was the owner and operator, along with his wife, Kaye of Meyer Gas in Bonita Springs, FL from 1992-2007. In 2007 they purchased an RV Park in Bonita Springs, FL, owned and operated it until 2014 when they sold the park and they both decided to enjoy retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Scottsburg, was giving & caring, a handyman, enjoyed tinkering around and fixing things but was best known for the love of the “finer things in life”. Sam is survived by the love of his life, Kaye Meyer of Fort Myers, FL, son, Stephen Scott Meyer of Hopkins, SC, daughter, Melissa K. Floyd of Ft. Myers, FL, and 3 grandchildren, EJ (Caitlyn) Floyd Jr., Taylor Rae Floyd, and Luke Austin Floyd, 1great grandson, Daniel Matthew Floyd, and 1 sister, Joye Alice Bottom of Russell Springs, KY. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Amelia Meyer and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Lillie Adkins. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at 6:00 PM at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Scottsburg.
