Gerald (Jerry) Glenn Hobson, age 85, of Griggsville, Il., died Thursday August 18, 2022 at Illini Community Hospital. Jerry was born in Valley City, Il. on September 25, 1936 to Elmer and Laverne (Whitaker) Hobson. He married Yvonne Sue Baker on July 14, 1956, in Griggsville and were married for 66 years. Surviving is his wife Sue; three sons, Stuart (Missy) Hobson, Todd (Shelly) Hobson and Corey (Rindi) Hobson all of Griggsville; seven grandchildren, Bryan (Erica) Hobson, Alyssa (Evan) Kreiling, Jason (Madison) Hobson, Lindsey (Marc) Rush, Tristin Hobson, Kaden Bennett and Addie Bennett; six great-grandchildren, Avery Hobson, Bryce Hobson, Natalie Kreiling, Emilia Kreiling, Elise Kreiling, and Molly Hobson; a sister, Phyllis Bloyd, of Griggsville and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parent and a brother, Loraine Hobson. Jerry was a graduate of the class of 1954 at Griggsville High School. After graduation he was employed by Trio Manufacturing and later King Feed in Pittsfield. He joined the US Army and served 2 years of active duty and then four more years in reserve and was a past member of the Griggsville American Legion Post. After his military service he came home and managed the Griggsville Feed Mill for 23 years and farmed for 55 years. He was a past member of the Griggsville Fire Department. Jerry was an avid sports fan, rarely missing a St. Louis cardinal game or an Illini basketball game. He enjoyed sitting in the yard having his friends stop by for a beer and reminiscing about the good old days. He also enjoyed doing woodworking. He was a hardworking man that could do anything he set his mind to. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday (August 24, 2022) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Il. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by Griggsville American Legion Post. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Griggsville Cemetery c/o Airsman-Hires Chapel, Box 513 Pittsfield, Il. 62363.
