Dorothy Ann Patrick

Our much-loved Mother Dorothy Ann Cook Patrick, 87, of Mineola, Texas passed on to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 16, 2022. She completed her earthly journey peacefully in her sleep at home with her daughter and grand dogs by her side.
She was born in Keith, Texas and raised in Houston by Josh and Bessie Lewis Cook along with her two older siblings, Irene and Velma Frances Cook. Mother attended San Jacinto High School, where she was the bugler of The Gaucho Girls, graduating in 1954. Her love of education continued at her cherished Baylor University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1958.
Mother then relocated to Dallas, Texas where she was hired by Lone Star Gas to be a home economist, demonstrating appliances in the then “North Dallas” area before 635, LBJ Freeway was constructed. She subsequently met our father through a mutual friend and got married to Jackie Ray Patrick in 1960.
Dorothy and Jack moved to Mineola where she began her new career as a high school educator for Mineola Independent School District, teaching Home Economics, Food and Nutrition, Child Development, and Sewing. In 1980, Mother obtained her Masters of Science at then East Texas State University while continuing her teaching assignment at Mineola High School as the vocational teacher of the Home Economics Department.
Mother was undoubtedly well known and loved through out her community. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Mineola, the Sonshine Sunday School Class, as well the local Rotary Club. She chaperoned and sponsored numerous extra-curricular activities for Mineola High School. Before retiring, she was awarded Woman of the Year of Mineola and later presented the honor of Teacher of the Year in 2004.
Dorothy was known, respected, and admired not only for her teaching skills but also for her love of cooking and sharing some of her favorite recipes. Her passion for education extended to giving her students the practical and useful life skills to generations of learners.
During retirement, Mother enjoyed her travels with some of her teacher colleagues, spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. Family birthdays, graduations, and Christmas celebrations at home or in Los Angeles were even more special because of our Mother. Her witty expressions, her relentless love and concern for her family and friends, and her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ were just some of the many qualities of Dorothy Patrick. She lived for her family while never meeting a stranger as she so enjoyed being social throughout her life in education and as a prominent community leader and member. Her happiness to always help people, to serve her delicious home cooked meals, her zest for life, and her unconditional love that she gave to so many will forever live in our hearts.
She is survived by her son, Jack Walter Patrick and daughter in law, Amy Lanell Patrick of Honey Grove, Texas, Jack Carter Patrick, grandson, of Ankeny, Iowa, Page Keller Patrick, granddaughter, of Fort Worth, Benjamin Walter Patrick, grandson, of College Station, Texas and her daughter Dr. Veta Deann Patrick of Mineola, with her beloved dogs and cats.
