Betty L. Borger

Betty Lou Borger, 96, was born September 18, 1925, in Belleville, Illinois to Robert and Adele (Gundlach) Sopp. She was a graduate of Belleville Township High School, class of 1943. After graduation she worked as a cashier at the First National Bank in Belleville. Here she met the love of her life, Louis Borger of Freeburg, Il. They married on March 18, 1944. She was a devoted mother and homemaker until all the children were in high school. She went to work at Donico Vending as their bookkeeper for 20 years. She loved walking to work and continued her long walks after retiring. She enjoyed bowling, but especially loved golf. They were 50-year members of the Morris Country Club where she played no matter the heat. Betty and Lou were super supporters of Morris High School sports. Watching grandchildren and other students was a favorite pastime. They could be found at football, basketball, softball, swimming, and tennis matches. Betty is survived by her loving children Gayle (Everette) Green, David (Marti) Borger, Kent (Diane) Borger and Janis (Guy) Christensen; her grandchildren: Robert (Melody) Green, Kristi (Wes) Motschmann, Kelly (Dan) Mitchell, Katie Christensen, Nicole (Cory) Jackson, Brittany (Jacob) Leon, Joshua (Penny) Robbins and Justin Robbins, and Adam (Boni) Borger; great grandchildren: Ethan, Benjamin, Alexander Green, Lydia and Dalton, Jace and Josie Mitchell, Broden and Hadley Jackson, Brynn, Tess, and Luke Robbins, Joaquin Leon, and Xun and Mili Borger. She is preceded by her husband Lou in 2013, her parents and her brother L.R. “Dutch” Sopp. Memorials may be made in Betty’s name to either First United Methodist Church of Morris, Lightways Hospice of Joliet, the Morris YMCA Building Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice. A visitation for Betty will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at First United Methodist Church of Morris. A celebration of Betty’s life will follow at 12:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Ayla Samson. Betty will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
