Maureen J. Collins Lodi, California Obituary

Maureen J. Collins

Maureen Janice Collins was born February 5, 1938 in Sacramento, California to Morris and Catherine Pieretti. She passed away peacefully on August 14, 2022, at the age of 84. Born, raised and educated in Sacramento, Maureen graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School Class of 55. In 1956 she met a young airman named James Walker Collins at a dance social in Sacramento. The couple began dating in 1956 and were married on November 16, 1957. They made their home in Sacramento where they purchased their first home in July and welcomed their first child in September 1959, a daughter; Debra Lynne, their second child a son; Michael James arrived in 1963. Maureen worked as a stay home mom and homemaker until her children began attending school, after a brief time working for CA DMV, Maureen left to begin working at Hiram Johnson High School where she remained until 1981. She then began working in the J.C. Penney Custom Decorating department, a position she held for 25 years until her retirement in 2006. She and Jim loved to travel, after their retirement they enjoyed trips back to James’ childhood home in Bennettsville, South Carolina, several trips to all of the Hawaiian Islands, Royal Caribbean cruises to Mexico and Alaska and of course many, many trips to So. Lake Tahoe and the Jackson Rancheria. (RedHawk came later!) Maureen enjoyed traveling to new places, cooking, shopping, gambling (when she was winning) and spending time with her family. Her true joy was her grandchildren. She loved hearing about all they were doing and celebrating their achievements along with them. She would light up whenever she was around them or if they would call her on the phone. She welcomed her first great-grandchild in Sept 2020 and was elated to know that her second will be arriving around May of 2023. She always made a big deal out of birthdays and holidays making sure to acknowledge everyone with special gifts, and making her famous spaghetti sauce and other Italian recipes handed down from her mother and grandmothers. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. Maureen is survived by her children; Debra Naves of Sacramento, and Michael Collins of Lodi. Although I had not seen Maureen in many years, I can see that she had a beautiful life with her loving family of children and grandchildren. So sorry for your loss. Teri Anticevich and family
