George Alex Orloff, Sr. Obituary

George Alex Orloff, Sr. was born to Elena Constantine and Alex Orloff in Port Moller, Alaska. He grew up and lived in several different villages in Alaska, including King Cove, Port Heiden, Chignik Lake, Chignik Lagoon, and Chignik Bay. He was a kind, gentle, loving man. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving for 2 years when he was 19 through 21. He met his wife, Joan (Boskofsky) Orloff and had 5 children who were the light of his life until his children started having children of their own and he grew to be an even more loving, caring, and patient Papa to numerous grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He had a special nickname for each of his grandchildren. He taught his children how they should be treated in this world and how they should treat the world. He instilled in his kids to not talk badly about other people nor judge others by simply saying, "what good will it do?" He had a quick wit about him and a unique laugh that many loved, especially when he would be laughing too hard to tell a funny joke or story. He was passionate about fishing and a lifelong commercial fisherman and wanted to be on the boat up until his last day on earth. He had a fishing maneuver called by many the 'George Orloff' of reversing the boat and chasing the fish back into the seine when holding a hook. George liked wheeling and dealing by looking at different makes and models of cars and playing cards. As he will be missed by all who met him, we can all be comforted by the fact that he is now at peace. He would want everyone to mourn in their own way and then live their lives to the fullest. He wouldn't want us to put our lives on hold in grief and sadness on his account. As he would say, "catch you later." A funeral service for George Orloff, Sr. will be held on Monday, August 15th at noon at St. Innocent Orthodox Cathedral, located at 401 Turpin St. Visitation will begin at 11:00am. Burial will take place at the Ft. Richardson National Cemetery at 2:30pm.
