Peter William Faguy Gaithersburg, Maryland Obituary

Peter William Faguy

With his loving wife and daughter by his side, Peter William Faguy passed away Aug.12, 2022. Peter, of Rockville, MD, was born Dec. 20, 1956, in Hamilton, Ontario. He had moved and seen countless cities around the world. From his birth in southern Ontario, to his tenure in Louisville, Kentucky, to his final home in Washington D.C. Peter was always moving, always learning and always teaching, after all he was a philosopher by nature and a scientist by trade. Peter first developed his love for thinking, learning and analyzing at St. Mary’s Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario, due to his excellent science teachers there. From the University of Alberta in Edmonton, where he earned his undergraduate degree, to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he earned his Ph.D. in Physical Electrochemistry, Peter consistently progressed in his academic career and love of science. While Peter has always loved the sciences, he found true love in Belgrade, Serbia where he met his wife-to-be Rada. After spending the summer of 1991 together, they began their next chapter in the U.S., living together in Louisville, Atlanta, Detroit and Washington, D.C. From academia to the private sector, Peter, with the guidance of Rada, spent the next few decades helping companies, including his own, leverage exciting science into great business opportunities. In 2010, Peter could not refuse an invitation from the U.S. Department of Energy to join the Vehicle Technologies Program. He managed a translational research and development program to commercialize battery technology for electric vehicles. He was proud and determined to develop the future of renewable energy for the entire world. Many people in the world think he has done this and if not it was only a matter of time. Peter was predeceased by his parents Arthur Faguy and Helen Hewak. Peter will be much missed by his brothers Paul, John, Gary and David, his sister Joanne, his stepmother Barb, his sisters-in-law, his brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandniece and grandnephews. But most of all, he will be missed by his adoring daughter Ana and beloved wife Rada. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Raising Excitement for Science, Engineering, and Technology (RESET), a nonprofit focused on learning opportunities for underrepresented groups in DC. Service and reception to be held at River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 6301 River Rd, Bethesda, MD 20817 on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 5:00 pm.

There are so many fond memories of time spent with Peter in St. Mary’s cafeteria ….aka the church basement; Math and Science homework, rounds of cards (Briscolla comes to mind) and always lots of camaraderie and laughs.
Peter was always his own person and a deep thinker ...
